She was born to former paratrooper and teacher, John Mordaunt, and Jennifer Snowden, a special needs teacher. Prior to entering politics, Penny Mordaunt had a variety of jobs as she made her way through her philosophy degree at Reading University. Her father served in the Parachute Regiment, also known as Paras, before becoming a teacher and, later, a youth worker for Hampshire Council.
